John has been kind enough to highlight one of my little grievances - mostly
it is not possible to bring back commercial numbers of fish from collecting
trips, just enough to breed from if you are lucky. Then you get home let
your fish grow a bit and before you know it visitors appear from everywhere
and want you to give preferrably, or sell as a last resort, their pick of
your treasuresand at prices they couldn't get Guppies for at the local
petshop.

I have estimated that an average pair of Rainbows or blue -eyes from one of
my trips to Cape York or Darwin costs me about $50 all up. And I can tell
you I have never sold a pair of fish for even half that - most of the fish
I have parted with are gifts, exchanges or go through club auctions

Wild fish each have a story attached to themand that's why I like to write
my little "travelogues" for "Fishes of Sahul" so that others can get a feel
for the efforts behind the story and perhaps appreciate the fish, their
habitat and their multi-facetted value more.

Cheers
