Betreff: Re: [RML] a book
I've certainly learned that the internet (this group especially) is one
of the very best places to find information, but one of the other
sources that I'd like to get is the Gerald Allen _Rainbowfishes - In
Nature and the Aquarium_ book. Does anyone know where I might find this
in the states? Amazon is a negative, and the only yahoo store I found
listed it as "unavailable." Anyone know where else I might look? Also,
is the Aqualog Rainbowfish book worth getting?
Hi Cameron!
I like the Aqualog special on Rainbows. It is written by an eminent
authority and edited by some great chaps ;) . The photography is breath
taking.
I wonder when "they" will get around to releasing the rainbowfish book in
the regular Aqualog series. Rumor had a release date of 12/2000. Or ... is
that the book you are referring to and has it finally been published?
Jim Forshey's Aquatic Bookstore www.seahorses.com has Allen's more recent
rainbow book for 18.88 plus postage. Forshey doesn't discount his books much
(although he carries a killifish monograph for $50 US which I purchased for
$120 when it first came out.) On the other hand he has invested a lot of
money in quite an inventory - some of which can not be fast movers.
He also lists Australian Native Fishes For AQUARIUMS by Leggett and Merrick,
hardcover $25.95 US and in CD format for $10.95.
Freshwater Fishes of NEW GUINEA by Dr. G. R. Allen 1991, 268 pages,
paperback $28.95
N-655 RAINBOW Fish (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals) By Gunther
Schmida
N-519 Breathtaking Rainbows (Special 4) By Harro Hieronimus hardback, 1999,
48 pages, many color photos, plus poster (Aqualog) $21.60
I was looking for Harro's book on livebearers and didn't find it. However
the Aquatic Bookshop has been moving and I think they are fiddling with the
site.
Some of us have come to treasure the place because of the range of fish
books, available not where else.
One thing I do wish that they would do is get rid of the goofy chain of
seahorses which follows the cursor around. I would browse more and buy more
without that distraction which caused me to leave the site in annoyance this
afternoon.
I hope this helps.
All the best!
Scott
