Chris, you idea basically is excellent, but you forgot one important point:
jealousy. Who (!!) does decide who gets the fish? Necessarily you'll think of
people you know. Others will do similar. Very difficult for good breeders
without a lobby. We have planned that in IRG and stopped it as we had to
see that the only result is jealousy.
However, there are other ways. You must give rare species more value.
That doesn't mean they should be extraordinary expensive but they must
be known as fish worth keeping. Thus it seems to be necessary to write more
articles on rainbows also in popular aquarium magazines to propagate the
matter. We have had about 100 new members only by two new books published
in Germany (one of the Jerry's). And the more information we spread on the
fish the more breeder we will get which will give a much better base for a broad
breeding stock for all species like we have today.
