<<Our very own Westralian Pgymy Perch is, possibly for the first time,
going
to get commercialised, by some guy who discovered them in his dam. Yep!
WA Fisheries apparently issued him a permit and he is this week planning to
sell them through Aquarium shops.>>
I think they make great aquarium subjects - I hope ANGFA(WA) will make
every effort to advise all the aquarium shops on a set of guidelines on how
best to look after them so the future recipients will be successful with
them and perhaps be interested in keeping other natives. Also of course so
that the fishes themselves will not be badly treatd (hopefully).
<< Keep your eyes out interstate!
Imagine this species getting in bed with the others around Australia>>
Before you worry about the rest of Australia Cyrus, what about "the other
WA Pigmy Perch - Balston's Perchlet? It has a very restricted range and to
my mind is one species that ANGFA(WA) could be involved in - documenting
accurate info on range ,habitat, keeping & breeding etc
<<A new book has come out just a few months, wondering if any of you have
see
it and offer any opinions. "Freshwater Fishes of South Eastern Australia"
Robert McDowall Reed Publication, $39.95, ISBN 0730104621.>>
I haven't seen it yet but have corresponded with the author - we are trying
to arrange bulk supplies and if successful it will be announced in the
ANGFA Bulletin.
