<<It is a pleasant change to see an intelligent post on the fish
importation issue into Australia. I for one fully agree and support
you. I was also not surprised by the typical negative response it drew
from most people. When are people going to stop pointing the finger at
someone else and take some responsibility?>>

PH has indeed raised THE MOST CONTENTIOUS issue that in my opinion is
likely to be raised except for the morality of keeping fish in captivity
ie "all wild things must be left to be free".

.<< For example, it has been pointed out how inadequate the
present two week quaranteen period is for incoming fish. Two weeks is
far better than none at all. Everyone was able to see that two weeks is
not adequate to pick up many diseases, but did anyone suggest that we
should increase this time?>>

It is a bit difficult to comment on what is the most appropriate
quarrantine period Peter(s) when the list of Diseases and general knowlege
about them is not readily available to most of us. I did say "for my money
I would like to see a consistent set of logical guidelines for the
selection of species to be imported and a quarantine approach that truly
matches up with the pathogens they are purporting to prevent ".and perhaps
instead of keeping the aquarist in then "mushroom" situation more
explanation would help. I would prefer to try anything that would lessen
the present adversarial approach that is even tending to creep into this
list once this topic has surfaced.

<<Only those who know the most release how little we actually do know.>>

OK. Perhaps "those who know the most" would be prepared to share a summary
of the real disease threats and a schedule of appropriate quarantine times
:-)

<< Just keep banging your head
into that brick wall >>

Gee Peter U until now I hadn't thought of you as a "head-banger" :-)
