Hi,
I think that a lot of the color of the bows comes from their diets.
Vitimins added to the diets intensifies their color, some of the flake foods
have more vitimins than others, live foods help but still they need the
vitimins and Real Sunshine to color up right.Ph and dh of the water also
effects color of our tank raised fish. I think in a lot of cases that fish
will color up totaly different in different types of water, believe me I have
two systems set up now one hard and alkid and the other soft and acid and the
color differenses can clearly be seen. I have found that fish fed wwith
Aquarian Marine Mix tend to have better color and throw more eggs.I have no
connections with that company they just make a good flake.
I live in the same town as Charlie and I have watched the same strain of
his fish change colors over time depending on his water and foods that he is
feeding.
The only way we can check the linage of a fish is with DNA testing and that
is to expensive for my budget.
Befor I would accuse some one of crossing a fish I would check out the
other possibilities.
I can remember going to and AKA show in Cinn. back in the early 70's and
entering a pair of f1 epp. from mann. They had been a pale drab pinkish color
in my Boston water. I did not bench the fish myself and when I saw them on the
bench with totaly different colors I made a note to buy the fish in the
auction. I also checked with the show chairman after the judging to find out
who owned the fish and thought he was carzy when he told me the fish were
mine.
I have acqired Mel. Trifasiata form charlie and had them look totaly
different when kept under my conditions. This has also happned with other
fish. Water and food, and light do make a difference.
