The Center for Marine Conservation (CMC), based in Washington,
D.C. invites applications for a post-doctoral position in Marine
Protected Areas, Reserves, and Sanctuaries. The successful candidate
will focus on (1) documenting, evaluating and assessing the efficacy
of existing marine protected areas; (2) planning, designing, and
developing proposals for new marine protected areas; and (3) designing
research and monitoring programs for current and future protected areas.
The purpose is to provide technical support for CMC's work on marine
protected areas, in the U.S. and the Caribbean. Applications will be

1998 or as soon thereafter as feasible. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in

The Center for Information Management, Integration and Connectivity

Community/Conservation Ecology affiliated to CIMIC. This is a non
tenure track, three year renewable appointment, starting July 15th. 1998.
CIMIC is an inter-disciplinary center that fosters research in areas of
information technology and environmental information systems. CIMIC
is currently establishing the Meadowlands Environmental Research Institute
(MERI), a world class institute primarily dedicated to urban and coastal
wetland research. The area of interest to the Institute is the Hackensack
Meadowlands District, a 32 square mile area six miles west of Manhattan
Island in North New Jersey. The successful candidate is expected to
coordinate all activities of the MERI institute and oversee the
implementation
of a research agenda established by a senior science advisory committee.

world. PANNA advocates adoption of ecologically sound practices in
place of pesticide use. This Staff Scientist position (one of three on staff)

focus on activities related to achieving reduced pesticide use in
California and the U.S., as well as domestic and international advocacy
for policies that promote alternative pest management, public health,
sustainable agriculture and food security. PANNA plans to fill the position

The International Program of the Environmental Defense is seeking a summer
intern to work with program staff and conduct research. For over ten years the
program has been at the forefront of international NGOs seeking reform of

primary goal of the program is to preserve global ecosystems, especially the
moist tropical forests of Indonesia, the Amazon basin, and West and Central
