rainbows belong to the family Melanotaenidae and blue-eyes to
Pseudomugilidae but until recently were considered to be in the same family - so
are usually both included in hobby publications on rainbowfish
Related groups that are called rainbowfish in the hobby but
are not Melanotaenids include fish from the genera Telmatherina ( from Indonesia
in general) and Bedotia (from Madagascar)

Hi!
Is it correct that the Telmatherina ladigesi
is called Celebes rainbowfish?
Why? Is it a rainbow or a
blueeye?
I've just seen blueeyes on photos, and I
think they look rather similar. I thought that it was just the rainbows and
blueeyes that had two separate dorsal fins?
If it is a rainbow why isn't it in Allen's
book about rainbows?

Cecilia
