from my contemplation by writing:

Hi Mach
I've seen this problem in many species and not just rainbows. Seems
the swim bladder never fills with air and the fry expend all their
energy just trying to swim. I've heard bows need to get a gulp of air
to fill it shortly after hatching. But this may not be the true cause,
but just a unfounded hypothesis. But I have heard reports of whole
batches of fry coming up this way. This would lead me to guess that
something in the water was out of balance, or the parents weren't in
good enough condition and produced weakened fry. I've never had a
whole batch go this way so its only a guess.
