>snip, snip, "I feel that aquarium strains of Rainbowfishes are inevitable".
I would have to agreed with Bruce but feel that the most likely source of
new aquarium varieties of rainbowfish will more than likely come from
Singapore or Florida breeders trying to enhance what already exists. It
other words redder incisus and bluer laucustris etc. We could also see mixed
species to achieve this end.
Most of these fish I feel will be sold as a trade name e.g. "Tomato Red
Incisus" or whatever ;-) (Don't you think those pigeon blood discus are
horrible looking things?)
However, it is most unlikely that the breeders will tell anyone what
combination or species were used to get the final result.
We already have this situation with livebearers, discus, angels and a host
of other species and its only a matter of time before rainbow varieties hit
the shops. I'm working on a spotted-marbled herbertaxelrodi - with Green
fins! not yellow or red.
Just kidding Bruce ;-)
Seriously though, I really don't think we can do anything about it and will
just have to learn to live with it like livebearer specialists etc have to
do. This is why it is very important for ANGFA, RSG & IRG to have something
along the lines previously muted by Peter Hughes, (nice one Pete!) but not
as complicated. Because if we make it too complicated no one will want to
participate, after all our main enjoyment is keeping and breeding fish or I
think it is?
