Hello Ade

Furcatus is essentially a scholing fish so does infinitely better in a
group. In my opinion you should aim at a breeding colony of at least 10 fish
, more if possible. I found they liked a roomy tank frequent water changes,
neutral to slightly alkaline water and hardness didn't seem to matter much.
The critical things seemed to be temperature and feeding. They like cooler
conditions especially to breed and above 24-26 seemed to stop egg
production. They seem happiest around 20-22C. I fed plenty of live BS and
mosquito larvae and they did well. Remember they are almost annuals so they
start breeding when quite small (about 1" TL) and become geriatric at about
2 1/2" or 2 years or so.

Sexing is easy based on fin size, colour intensity and size. Males have more
of everything.

Regards,
Bruce.
