really tough :-)

Damn right they're a beginners fish. You don't even need APR for the
fry. Just feed the parents well (preferably live food) and keep the pH
above 7.0, mine crash if I let it drop too low. Provide a mop and
you'll start getting eggs. I've never had much problem with egg eating
in the parents but I do use very thick mops. Mop the mop to a hatching
tank, once you get fertile eggs and when they hatch, start right off
with baby brine shrimp. Also I keep mine at about 76 degrees F.
