I currently have a fully planted community tank, predominantly filled with
rainbows. All the M.Trifasciata species (Goyder, Coen, Archer rivers) have
come down with some form of disease which has been relatively hard to get
rid off. Its been two weeks since I first noticed the symptoms, and I have
tried various forms of medication, with no sign of complete eradication of
the problem. The interesting thing is that the other rainbows in the tank -
M.McCullochi, Lacustris, Misoolensis and other species have not been
affected.

The symptoms are : affected fish have pale blue or whitish sheen, first
signs are that the area between top of head to dorsal fins look like
sandpaper has been taken to the skin, and skin appears slightly shredded.
Fins are clamped, and some fish have white spots on the body and gill areas.

Possible diseases : velvet, chilodonella ?

Treatments tried : Trichlorform (sp ?) tablets (Aquasonics Paragone)and
Aquarium Products "ickaway" which is a mixture of formaldehyde and methylene
blue. Disease seems to fade away but not complete cure, and when treatment
stopped, comes back again.

Anyone got some suggestions ?

Thanks in advance.

Chen
