There are two species, although C. "stercusmuscarum" is aparently pretty
uncommon, I think I only found one record in the museum. The other,
currently called C. stramineus is apparently more common. The Qld
"stramineus" are massively different from those in the Finnis and Daly
rivers. I am yet to get any material from WA to compare. They are also
found in the Ord and Fitzroy rivers. Would be surprised if those in the
Victoria and Ord were any different from those in Daly, but sounds like
they look a little different from what you describe. Who knows about fish
in the Fitzroy River. Those are somewhat more isolated potentially.
