The latest issue of FAMA had an article where a gentleman thinks he
may have cured what we call TB, but what he was calling Rainbowfish
disease. He used a rather new antibiotic and either put the disease in
remission or cured it. It was only a short test with one batch of fish
and he wrote the article about two months after the supposed cure, so
its nothing definitive. When I say the article was done by somebody
with MD after his name I was hoping for a little more testing but it
was really all conjecture with only one test. And an uncontrolled test
at that. The antibiotic he used has the trade name Ceftin (Cefuroxime
axetil) at 50 milligrams per gallon. He claims it quickly stabilized
wounds and the all but one of his 14 infected fish survived. It may be
worth a bit of a try if you can get ahold of it. He also believes that
Rainbowfish disease is caused by an opportunistic pathogen,
Aerobacter. Maybe the good Doctor could fill us in here. But failed to
mention any tests that led him to that conclusion.
