We have a similar situation here in the US. Fishermen make up a large
chunk of the constituancy, and funnel a lot of money into state/federal
programs via liscensing fees and etc. Most of the serious threats to
native fish here are from angling species (or dambusia) being released
into the wrong places; most places are wrong IMHO. Bass and trout are two
of the big offenders. What anglers don't put out there, the gov't people
do, so the native species don't have a chance. It is gettting a tiny bit
better, but only very, very slowly are people here starting to realise
the damage and problems this situation is/has caused. One can only
hope....
