anvil, Bruce, that should just about fix it... ;)
OK, so here I am.... Bruce's thumbnail was, like the man, subtle, elegant,
and sincere, I'll not try and compete ;)
Andrew Boyd, born in the mid-1960's in country New South Wales. I work as
the Systems Administrator (read PC fixit man and mainframe admin trainee)
for the Communications Section of the federal Department of Foreign Affairs
and Trade, which means that I have no promotional prospects whatsoever but I
can say "Two Beers, please, my friend will pay!" in several languages!
I am married to an Engineering student, and we have three daughters aged 9,
7, and 5.
I have been keeping fish for a long time, my father kept Goldfish and
Guppies (and bred a few) when I was quite young. I 'lapsed' for a while,
and have been keeping fish in my current "phase" for 10 years or so now...
Although I do like Rainbowfish, I am more interested in the "wierd and
wonderfuls" like gobies - Desert Gobies being a particular weakness of mine.
I am also very interested in reptiles and amphibians - aside from the fish I
keep one species of lizard, one of turtle, and two of frog - all legally,
which is something I am careful of. We also have a variety of ducks,
chooks, and rabbits in our large backyard at the moment.
I have been on the committee of the Canberra and District Aquarium Society
for the best part of the last 8 years, and am currently serving my second
sentance as President. I played my small part in the formation of ANGFA
(ACT) - a group I have proudly watched grow from strength to strength. Here
in Canberra we have just started a little indepentant Plant Study Group,
which is quite useful to someone like me who hasn't ever given aquatic
plants the attention they deserve.
Most of my spare time is spent in front of my keyboard... I have been
corresponding with some members of this list via email for a lot longer than
the list itself has been extant. I play around with HTML a little, not up
to Mr T's standard, but it's fun nevertheless... those who know me
privately know I spend a lot of time MUDding as well. I archive this and the
Southern Hemisphere Killifish Mailing List, and am on 7 other mailing lists.
For a bit of light physical activity to counteract all this "computer
slouch" I am teaching myself blacksmithing.
I enjoy co-moderaptoring this list immensely, it has been of enormous
benefit to my general knowledge about the Native Fish hobby all around the
world. I have made many good friends through the list, and had a good time
at the RML get-together at last year's Convention. Maybe this year I won't
have to be half-carried into the AGM! ;)
Alan and I started the list with all the altruistic ideals in the world, to
bring people closer together, to encourage the sharing of knowledge, but
also to benefit ourselves. I'm not sure how Alan feels on this, but I'd
like to thank all the members of the list for what I've gotten out of it.
