Mach, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin featured a story on the edibility of
Apple Snails

http://starbulletin.com/96/05/01/features/story1.html

It is quite a thorough article, listing several recipes, including a nutritional
analysis of each.

OTOH: having the right genus to search on, I found Socio-Economic Aspects of
Biological Invasion, A Case Study: the Golden Apple Snail

http://www.gcrio.org/ASPEN/science/eoc94/EOC3/EOC3-18.html

which lists several negative health effects. I don't think my Mystery snails
are in any danger of being eaten soon.

Regards, Andrew

(snip)

I was told that the Giant African snails are an intermediate host for rat
lungworms and ingestion of the snails could result in an infection of this
trematode (?). Never seen it clse up so I am not too sure....
