I use a product called Aquari-Sol to rid tanks of hydra. Its made by
Aquarium Products and contains Zycosin (soluble copper salts). I've
never had any problems with plants using this product although other
copper based products have really done some damage to my plants.
Usually a one time treatment at double dose does the trick for me.
There is a green hydra (I've heard it eats algea) thats a little
tougher to kill off with Aquari-Sol but ti will still do the trick.
I've even used it in fry tanks without problems.
