But they *do* translocate species which don't naturally occur in a waterbody. Which potentially as bad as releasing exotics.

As far as we know Sunfish as nothing to do with the translocation of exotic species. The translocation is rather the result of irresponsible hobbyists dumping unwanted fish in local waterways. Sunfish is an angler lobbying group and,until now would not promote the translocation of native or exotic species in or within Australia,
The use of tilapia as live bait by some unscrupulous anglers might be also a possible scenario responsible for the introduction of tilapia in some waterways, but Sunfish is not approving those practices, despite its extreme positions "in the name of recreational anglers rights at any price".
Note: I do not belong to Sunfish, I am an angler and an aquarium hobbyist.
