Aquasonic also make another product called Extra Power
>Water Purifier which is used in most areas of Australia, and will also
>efficiently remove chloramines (albiet at not quite as high a level as the
>Chlormon). I do have great faith in both these products, as I was working in
>an aquarium store in Sydney about 15 years ago when chloramines were first
>used in the tap water there.
I would confirm what Jennifer has said and was actually working in an
aquarium store in Brisbane (Wonderfish) at that time also. Wonderfish was
involved in the testing of Extra Power water conditioner and it was if I
remember correctly specially design to handle Brisbane tap water. Chlormon
followed on from there.
I would not use any Brisbane water in any aquariums without using Chlormon
as it will take a long time for Brisbane water to be safe for keeping fish
when only stored (aged).
However, a word of warning. Do not overdose with Chlormon as it does have
some effect on the oxygen levels in the aquarium if use at too high a
level, and can in extreme cases can cause fish kills. I'm not quite sure at
what levels it becomes a problem, but if you stick with the recommended
dose rate you will not have a problem. I have used this product since it
was first placed on the market. In fact, I was one of the people who was
testing some of the early product before it came on the market.
