<The recent discussions on algae bloom and ulcers made me think about
<intermittent lighting. I have heard that plants appreciate (grow better!)
<when there in intense light for 4 hours and off for 1 hour and so on,
<rainbows may be induced to spawn more times in this condition obviously all
<other factors would be optimised and the change over would not be sudden.
<Has anyone observed rainbows start spawning right when light is turned on,
<even during middle of the day, or are do they have sex in the morning just
<for morning exerscise?

Well, I always start the lights late in the evening (I want to see anything from my fish and during the day I
have only rarely time to do so) and found that the rainbows think it is morning and start to mate when the
lights are turned on. They don't have an inner clock which tells them "morning";-) but get very quickly
used to what you do. Of course the room has to be rather dark (like my cellar room) otherways they will
start to mate in the morning anyway.
Some years ago I turned on the lights in the morning, stopped in the midday hours (because then I had
natural light) and turned the lights on again in the afternoon. I found that at least certain species like M.
boesemani started to mate again when the lights were turned on.
