The show is not in SF, but for Hayward it also happens to be dead soft. The
vast bulk of the water around SF Bay is delivered at anywhere from my 300
ppm tds to about 470 ppm. Generalities like that are dangerous. Only
Hetch-Hetchy (SF) water, some EBMUD, and some RO water delivered to Silicon
Valley industry are softer than mine, AFAIK.

The Hayward water will be probably raised from the <50ppm tds to some more
nominal value with salt, anyway. Nothing stops anyone from providing his/her
own water, BTW.
