[RML] water quality fluctuations and seasonal change

I just had an idea come to me after reading Peter's article (very well
done) on how most fish from down under live in an environment that the
water quality changes for one extreme to another. After reading this I
began to think about my Ps. connieae that were not breeding (relative to
Ps. furcata that just need a mop or moss and look out). I recalled, that
when they had last breed I had placed them into a tank that I had set up
for Ps. gertrudae, more tannins via Tetra's black water extract, and they
had laid eggs to the point that they were getting emaciated, so of course I
removed the Java moss and they stoped, and I gave them a rest. I added the
black water extract to the breeders and some of my younger breeders (that
were not doing anything) and low and behold an increase in courtship
activity and production of eggs, even my young fish. Well anyway this is
still being evaluated on my end, however what I was wondering, not knowing
the water quality fluctuation in relation to seasonal change in OZ and PNG,
how are these seasonal changes syncronized with the fishes natural cycle?
I recall reading about M. splendida and it prefering changes in Ca
concentration over the seasons, are we looking at the same phenomenon here?
If so can it be exploited to have females store energy to make more eggs by
altering the seasonal cycle?
Any ideas?
