On the strain I have, the females can readily be told apart by the
black edge on the anal fin. This is 100% true with mine, but I have
heard of other strains where this isn't so (some females lack the
black). I'd give them a little time. If you have two in a tube I'd
doubt that its two males. My males don't really get along to well.
They're always nipping at each other and I've never seen them share a
tube. About the only thing I see in tubes are males guarding eggs or
trying to entice females to join him. Or a male and female when
they're spawning. I should note that I don't give enough tubes for all
the fish or even all the males. Its usually only two or three tubes
per dozen fish.
