suggest < 50ppm is soft, > 50 < 200 is moderate and > 200 is hard. My
reasons for suggesting this is that in the Oz wilds "typical" aquatic
habitats are probably in the moderate zone which would be what most
species typically experience.
Peter - I'll take a different approach. Water testing labs call anything
over 100 ppm hard. Since I spent part of my life testing water and "enjoyed"
it so much, ;) I''ll have to say that your list of hardnesses are fairly
good, but add anything less than 20 ppm to be very soft. I think this needs
to be added since there are a number of fish that really need very soft water
in my experience (Pseudomugil tenellus, comes to mind).
