The overlap area seems to start around Bundaberg and the region just north
of there. Years ago there was a nice "Checker" (splendida) from the Elliott
but haven't seen them for years. there are still plenty from Deepwater
Creek and around 1770 and Agnes Waters.

>From memory Chris & Jon Marshall collected duboulayis from Byfield area.
And of course the famous Gin Gin is a dub.

H. gallii cut off is a different kettle of fish - I agree the photos around
are a problem. Why can't someone include some good female shots too?
Perhaps Peter you would be Kind enough to do us a brief table for field
IDing of the Hypseleotris species and with your permission we could put it
in the various publications. I remember pulling a seine in Lake Broadwater
with Ray Leggett and there seemed to be at least 3 species that
superficially looked similar.

<<A question for the Qlders. Have any of you collected around the boundary

of M. duboulayi and M.s. splendida? Where do you think it is? Wager's
fish distribution of Qld suggests the two species overlap around
Gladstone although I feel this is more likely misidentifications. Anyone
want to give their two bobs worth? Also, how far north have folks
collected Hypseleotris galii? I have seen fish from Gin Gin Ck and I
know they are not found in the Fitzroy or Burdekin basins despite there
being records from there. I have seen the specimens and these are
Midgley's carp gudgeon. Also, remember that the 2nd photos in Merrick &
Schmida and Leggett & Merrick of H. galii are actually Midgley's.>>
