I wish I could quote you what article (or the lecturer) it was that I read but
it was a fellow that I think was a Vet. He said that Methylene Blue isn't
really a fungicide but rather it just cut out the light and that is what
prevented the fungus. If I am tray hatching Pseudomugil eggs I make sure that
I change the water every other day or so. Sometimes you can get lazy with
Melanotaenias as they hatch in 7 days or so. So many of the blue-eyes seem to
take forever! You could just as easily not put anything in the water just
avoid really bright lights. I will sometimes use a very light staining of
Methylene blue to start with BUT that is to stain the infertile eggs. They
will change to a light blue, the fertile eggs exclude the dye. If you really
darken the water even the fertile eggs will turn blue though so don't overdo
it. You might end up with a lot of belly draggers ?? if you poured it on too
thick. A light staining has never caused any concern though.
