For most of my populations of rainbowfish I am confident that I have
good strains. ALL of the bows in my tanks have come from RSG
sources, mostly from eggs. ONLY the wanamensis came with the
disclaimer that it was a "pretty good strain". I finally got juveniles from
Kent Webster because he has a repuitation with me for quality fish, but I
talked with a lot of folks first. No one could garantee their strain and I
understand the reasons for a lot of the problems.
There is a story about one of us that, on returning from a visit down
under with several populations of trifiasciata, dumped them all into one or
two tanks when he returned because he was out of room. I can hardly
tell females of some different species apart. I cant imagine trying to
differentiate between females of closely related trifiasciata populations.
I'm sure that this individual, if he distributes these fish, will be very
reluctant to volunteer the information that there might be "just the smallest
possibility" that the strains could be comprimised.
So bottom line.... Does anybody have a clean strain of G. wanamensis
that would be willing to sell a mop of eggs?
