Alfred,

>>When I wish to breed a fish type I often turn the heat down and turn
off
the lights and not feed or change the water for a week or 10 days then
I feed
them heavy with live foods and change the water and raise the temp a
little
with the water change and then most of the time they color up and
breed.<<

I've thought about using this sort of technique to try to encourage
spawning. I find that cichlids that I've had mailed to me, if old
enough, almost always tend to spawn in the first few days after they
arrive. I've wondered if the no light, no food, then an abundance of
both with clean water might be a good trigger.
