[RML] Looking for G. wanamensis

I just purchased several specimines of G. wanamensis from a known
breeder. This is a fish I have been looking for for several years but I
have been concerned about quality.
The story goes that only males survived the trip from PNG and all current
stock of what is now called G. wanamensis is really derived from G.
wanamensis males crossed back from G. incisus females.
My view on this is that even though these may be beautiful fish, they are
not G. wanamensis.
Is this story true?
Is there an absolutely known pure source for G. wanamensis?
How can I be sure I have the real thing?
I currently keep 12 species of rainbowfish including the above mentioned
wanamensis.
Any help would be appreciated.
