The mind boggles at the possible end result of such a punishment :-)
I guess we will never get away from the fact that commercial exploitation
of the attractiveness of Rainbowfish crosses will always be lurking around
the corner. When you consider some of the horrible things man has done to
some fish ( longfinned pale Oscars, washed-out versions of countless other
species, tail-less Discus, numerous horribly deformed goldfish varieties
etc) I guess crossbreeds are not too bad.
My major beef is that he is passing them off as species when they are not
and that is false advertising, reprehensible trade practice and downright
lying. If he must sell hybrids then "truth in advertising" should dictate
that the fish only be sold under the title of hybrid and preferably with
the parentage listed. I don't think he would sell so many then.
Also perhaps if we told everybody (who will listen) that they are crosses
and refuse to buy anything from people who sell crosses labelled as species
then perhaps the message may have some impact.Commercial "cheating" has to
be tackled by "commercial" impact.
