I heard a new one yesterday from one of the new fish stores in town (St.Louis MO). They got Asian imported fish from their wholesaler and when they got the fish home, looked like Ich. THis "new" ich was next to impossible to treat. "someone" did a test and found it was some sort of human pathogen (it sounded like she was trying to say Klebsiella, a gram neg, encapsulated bacteria). The only antiobiotic that supposedly was working was something very expensive. She ended up chloroxing the tank, throwing the gravel and starting over in the 3 tanks that had it. Now has a net for each aisle and very thankful she didn't have all of her tanks on a "system". Unfortunately many shop owners are a bit like the "National Enquirer Magazine". There is a bit of real news there but much of it is smoke and mirrors and fabrication to fill in the rest. Although MIB fans know that's how you track aliens (from other planets) too :-)
I think I would be cautious about getting in any new fish and I would certainly isolate them and any containers used to avoid spreading diseases. The asian market gave us angelfish disease quite a few years back probably because of their overuse of antiobiotics and overcrowding of the fish. This might be a new one or just a new tall tale. Just might exercise a bit more caution for the next couple of months.
