As Les suggests

Supporting the efforts of the existing agencies is extremely important and
an occasional letter to your local state and federal elected members asking
them what they have done on your behalf to support conservation of native
fishes may help too (no matter what country you live in). Sadly often they
are totally unaware that many native species are in deep trouble.

Co-ordinating with the existing agencies can sometimes be difficult when it
comes to breeding efforts - some parties on either side (official and
hobbyist that is) may tend to be rather parochial when it comes to
appreciating the respective efforts. It is sometimes forgotten that we are
essentially both on the same side :-)

Finally I would like to echo Helen Karson's plea - please publish your
experiences at whatever level you like from local club newsletter upwards.
The written word on husbandry of native fishes and even on field
observations while collecting badly needs augmenting.

Regards,
Bruce.
