Please accept our apologies for interrupting ongoing dissussions.
NISC wishes to clear up any misunderstandings or mis-communications
about how much of ASFA is in NISC products.
In response to several inquiries we've had regarding a posting sent
to this list on Aug. 5, 1997, we thought it was important to
outline the content of NISC's ASFA-based products.
NISC 's CD-ROM and WWW products include ASFA in its entirety -
from the first record to the last. We also include the complete
Oceanic Abstracts from CSA. Our ASFA-based products include other
important databases as well. Details and records counts follow:
The Aquatic Sciences & Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) is
compiled by CSA, sponsored by four United Nations agencies, and
produced in partnership with research centers worldwide. ASFA
(1978-present) is approximately 635,000 records in all.

NISC product: " Aquatic Biology, Aquaculture & Fisheries Resources -
1971- Present" (ABAFR) contains:
1) all of ASFA Part 1 (1978-present - same coverage as all other
vendors and CSA)
2) all ASFA Aquaculture Abstracts produced
3) plus EIGHT other leading databases and the ASFA Thesaurus
****************************************************
NISC product: "Marine, Ocenaographic & Freshwater Resources -
1960-Present" (MOFR) contains:
1) all of ASFA Parts 2 & 3 (1978-present - same coverage as all other
vendors and CSA)
2) all ASFA Marine Biotechnology Abstracts produced
3) all Oceanic Abstracts produced by CSA (but not included in ASFA)
from 1964-Present
4) plus TEN other leading databases and the ASFA Thesaurus

The two NISC products described above can be accessed over the
Internet on NISC's BiblioLine web search service (www.nisc.com) or on
CD-ROM.
In comparison to the ASFA products available from
other vendors, our two products (outlined above) provide an
**additional** 894,000 records not available from other sources. In
addition, we include 151,000 ASFA enhanced records as a result of our
composite record technology, which identifies duplicate records
between databases and combines the unique data elements into one
super-record.
Note: most of the 894,00 additional records are without abstracts
but still provide excellent indexing using descriptors from the
ASFA Thesaurus.
NISC's 894,000 additional records and 151,000 ASFA enhanced records
combined with our award winning search-and-retrieval technology can
yield better results for your patrons.
Subscriptions to both of NISC's products ABAFR & MOFR provide
unprecedented access to over 1,525,000 records!
NISC also sells a CD-ROM product which is ASFA only from 1985-present
(no other databases are mixed with ASFA and all of ASFA is included
from 1985-present).
Thank you.
