DESERT SPRINGS ACTION COMMITTEE - ALL ARE WELCOMED - May 5 through 7.
The rag tag conservation group comprised of members from TFEx and the
Bay Area Killifish Association (BAKA) is happy to announce the Moapa
Warm Springs Desert Work Party 96'. Peter Unmack, TFEx Advisory Board,
has finalized plans for a productive learning and constructive "Desert
Happening". The May trip is authorized and under the supervision of
the Nevada State Dept. of Wildlife (NSDW) while in the Moapa River
Wildlife Refuge of Nevada. Various projects to enhance the habitat
will be conducted under the tutelage of Peter Unmack and agency
biologist, Jim Heinrich, who will be on site to over see proper
completion of tasks that will include a mark and release count of the
fish and eradication of various introduced fish species from selected
springs.
Members are reminded that we are guests at the Moapa Wildlife Refuge
and all rules are to be strictly observed. The Desert Springs Action
Committee will rendezvous Sunday morning, May 5th at 10:00 a.m. at the
refuge office (trailer bldg.). Signs to this area are easily seen during
daylight hours. The turn off is mid way between Hwy. 15 and 93 on 168
and labeled Warm Springs Exit - Warm Springs Refuge. You should secure
lodging outside the refuge if arriving late Saturday night, since camping
is not generally permitted there
There will be foodstuff and gear available for cooking several hot meals,
please bring complimentary supplies to share, and if needed, your own
special dietary concerns. We will collect a small stipend ($10.00) from
participants attending to help defray some cost. This area is remote and
adequate individual camping gear will be needed to facilitate your stay
and enjoyment.
Making reservations is required to help with the planning and logistics.
Please call if you would like to attend this work party and great nature
trek.. Car pools will be available with advance planning. Direct
