Hi Chen,
The little UPS's I used to use at work were only good for a short time,
they were only intended to give the NT servers they were hooked up to time
to shut down gracefully ;)
Now the UPS we had on the mainframe, that was a different story... the
batteries were HUGE, imagine a car battery the size of a wheely bin ;) A
mad bloke I used to work with bought some similiar ones from a junk dealer
as he was interested in experimenting with alternatives to "The Grid"
(mains power).
Now, to get into the really tricky stuff... has anyone ever run a fishroom
off The Grid altogether? The technology is there, it is in use in
home/industry (I am talking solar/wind generation), it just costs 10s of
thousands of dollars to set up ;) There are people around with quite
efficient passive solar fishrooms, but I am not sure anyone is using
alternate electricity supplies.
