BEWARE: THIS IS FAIRLY TECHNICAL!!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------
I have got Alans ops working now. The problem was his hostmask.
If you have been given CHANOP access, this may be useful to you,
otherwise you may as well trash this message now.
For those of you who dont know, the hostmask is what you get when
you do a /whois of someone.
This is my hostmask: googly at *.interact.net.au
This is Alans: ~merlin at *.macrae.com.au
The ~ (tilde) was the problem. The nickname registration bot doesnt look
for
that, so it thougt his hostmask was merlin at *.macrae.com.au, not
~merlin at *.macrae.com.au
So we had to add more hostmasks to his list. we did this by typing
/msg nickop addhost ~merlin at *.macrae.com.au
and also
/msg nickop addhost ~merlin at *.orac.net.au
this is because his ISP has two different domains - orac.net.au and
macrae.com.au
It is usually best if you drop your nickname registration first, by typing
/msg nickop drop
then re-registering your nick by typing
/msg nickop register <password>
then we add the other hostmask by typing
/msg nickop addhost ~merlin at macrae.com.au
Then he quit IRC, then logged back in, and voila.. Auto-ops for Herne :)
BTW: if you are trying to follow these instructions, change all the Hernes,
GoOgLY's, merlins, <passwords> and any other name that may appear to your
own values.. eg ~user at *.isp.com.bleh not ~merlin at *.macrae.com.au :)
If you have any more problems, feel free to send me a private e-mail, talk
to me on IRC, or page me via ICQ. My UIN is 1582291 and the nickname is
GoOgLY.
Hope i havent confused too many people with this.. :)
Regards,
