Tell me about it, I chated with a wildlife enforcment officer (not a
game warden, it's a state trooper that gets to deal with animals (now he
had some INTERESTING stories)). He basical said that "south Florida is
one big zoological park), they catch at least one 10'+ python or boa a
week (you know they HAVE to be breeding with those numbers!). From what
I have heard one of the biggest problems as far as introductions here
are SOME disreputable breeders, their common practice is to throw
animal/plant into ditch and collect in X amount of time, no water
changes, feeding, hassle etc. Now I have that last bit on word of mouth so
will not garantee the accuracy of it, but it makes a lot of sense.
I think that Florida is unfortunatly a lost cause and the best that can
be done here is damage control, well that's a little exagerated. I hope
that things work out in OZ so that both fish keepers (who incidently do
more for public awarness than any other group in my opinion) and the
enviornment are happy.
