Zeolite lasts forever in an aquarium setup because the NH4 is attracted
to the zeolite via electrical charge. The normal nitrogen cycle
continues with the microbes surrounding the zeolite. I doubt that the
zeolite would be this effective in very high concentrations as those
seen in sewage treatment plants - but very effective in aquarium setups
when there are only relatively small amounts of NH4 being released when
decon'ing chloramines
