Most Australian / New Guinea fishes can tolerate around 1/2 seawater, hence a
little salt from bs shouldn't hurt.

You're right, fish don't die for no reason, but figuring out that reason would
require a post mortem as is done for people. Then you could get a much better
idea. Without doing that, you may as well be talking to Roy, ie wasting your
time.
