today I finally received the second edition of Jerry Allen's book
"Faszinierende Regenbogenfische", German edition. There are
several changes and as far as I know the second English edition
has not been published until today (correct me, if I'm wrong, but
you should by more books :-)).
Of course most of the small mistakes which mostly have been in
the photo titles have been corrected. As you may already know,
the mistakes in the English and German version were nearly
identically.
M. trifasciata and I. werneri from pp. 5 and 7 have been removed.
Instead of these two double page photos of I. werneri and G. incisus
have been added at their places.
Some fish got their new names - which may cause problems.
The M. spec. on p. 74 shows M. kamaka. No problem, the species
has been described officially meanwhile. However, three of the
fish on p. 75 have names now - and there is no officially
published description as far as I know. They should have been
published in the "Revue francaise d'Aquariologie", but I
haven't seen them yet.
Anyway, here are the names:
Kikori Blue Rainbowfish: Melanotaenia caerulea
Azure Rainbowfish: Chilatherina price
Turquoise Rainbowfish: Melanotaenia mubiensis.
On p. 87 a photo of a live Chilatherina lorentzi
has been added. The fish show a nice silvery lighting
blue and make a real nice impression. Maybe, under the
right conditions, the colour may be close to M. praecox!
On p. 130 a photo of a live M. ogilbyi has been added.
It has a prominent lateral black stripe, the throat and
part of the anterior part of the body is golden, the posterior
part is slightly blueish as is the caudal fin. The first
dorsal is golden, the second and the anal are yellow
blueish. Nice fish.
On p. 167 a photo of a live Pseudomugil reticulatus male
has been added. Don't believe what you see in the preserved
one. It is a nice species! There are reddish stripes from the
end of the dorsal and anal running into the caudal. The upper
and lower third of the latter fin are strongly red. The ventral
fins are yellow, the first and second dorsal yellow and red.
the breast seems to be golden, maybe like in P. furcatus which
the species in several part resembles.
That's all I noticed. Whoever wants to obtain this book before
it is published in English or just wants it, you can order it by me.
Please send 35,- DM (at present 30 AUD or 23 US $) and you
