Use old gravel, if you use a UGF, or old filter media from another
established tank. Either will kick-start the cycling, but you must either
add some tough fish that can take the ammonia and nitrite spikes, or a *lot*
of plants to absorb them. No cycling will procede in a tank without fish or
inverts being fed regularly, BTW.
