I spoke to Mark at the Australian Museum this morning. They are after as many fish from different areas as possible for a vast project being undertaken to catalogue all specimens on an easily accessible computer database. It appears that the Hasting catchment is indeed the most southerly population of duboulayi recorded. We were not the first, however. Specimens were actually collected from 2 locations in 1970, and as far back as 1916. These fish were previously identified as M.fluviatilis, and have only very recently been re-classified as duboulayi.
I'm still pleased with our find however, and the more I look at them, the prettier they become:-)
Jennifer.
