I have to relate this unusual event that happen with one of my trickle
filter systems. Somehow a young ancistrus catfish must have gone through the
overflow, passed the prefilter and settled in the plastic tubing that runs
from the overflow/prefilter area to the rotating arms in the filter proper.

There he stayed and grew, living on the detritus I suspect, until the day I
first noticed him. He was then about 25 mm in size. Anyhow he was doing such
a good job of keeping the plastic tubing clean from algae etc, that I left
him there. You could actually see him moving up and down the inside of the
tubing sucking away at the sides. Then one day I noticed he was missing so I
decided to disconnect everything and see what happened. You'll be please to
know that the story had a happy ending as he was in the actual rotating arms
still alive and well. However, I decided to let him go in the main tank - a
case of freeing Wee Willy :-)

Adrian.
