could be dealt as, G. cf multisquamata Mamberambo River. This implies it
is like multisquamata but may be different. Of course, some jerk may
just go and cross it with a multi from somewhere else (I certainly
wouldn't trust the trade with this name). Mind you someone could just
cross the thing anyway thinking they knew better etc.<

It is spelt Mamberamo, and, you'll hate me for that :-), it must be
G. cf. multisquamatus, as Glossolepis is male, not female.

However, we have another possibility. cf. means confere which is
latin and means "may be compared to". Also possible is spec. aff.
which means species affinis translated "undetermined, but related
to".

Further to this, how long is the Mamberambo R? Is the fish going to be
the same at the headwaters as the lowlands? I feel we could often do
with a township name or something to tighten the locality a bit.

The Mamberamo is one of the major rivers of New Guinea.
It is of course possible that different fish occur in the upper
and/or lower part. However, most of the fish we know come from
the lower part and not many rainbowfish origin from the rather
short upper parts of these rivers (short according to the strong
current).
