Magnesium and Rainbowfish

A friend of mine is studying the natural water conditions in Australia and New
Guinea and he told me that the water in OZ is relatively high in Calcium and
very low in Magnesium while the water in NG is high in Magnesium and low in
Calcium. Is this the case and if so then should NG rainbow fry be raised in
water that is high in Magnesium just as OZ rainbow fry are raised in water that
is high in Calcium?
