Since "Role Reversal" and "Sex Reversal" are such different phenomena I
will confine my observations to Rainbowfish only. In M. splendida inornata
especially, I have seen the phenomenon of the female that is more colourful
than the usual one for that form and as well develops "square " fins with
checquered markings ( not the full-coloured pointed ones of the typical
male). However these females will produce fertile eggs when mated ( to a
male). .

I thought I'd do a "Peter Hughes" here a throw some bait to the Sharks ;-)

Has anyone ever observed or suspected sex reversal in rainbowfishes?

Adrian.
