This correspongs with observations I have made in nature (although with
other fish than rainbows). The fry are much more often found in the
shallow, much warmer water at the shores of lakes and rivers than the
adults which were in the free water. Remember G. multisquamatus
laying eggs in flooding areas. The water temperatures for the hatching
fry in the very shallow water of the flooding area is surely higher than
in the middle river.
However, generally you shouldn't keep your bows at too high temperatures.
We almost anytime have too high temperatures in our aquaria. 24°C are
enough for adults - and M. herbertaxelrodi e.g. shouldn't be kept and most
of all bred with temperatures higher than 22°C as otherways you will have
chiefly males in the offspring.
Harro
