I have some of these little beauties. Of course I was attracted to them because
of their Rainbow like looks. They really are beautiful. Bob Allen says that they
have the very annoying habit of throwing many more females than males. I bought
12 ( one since jumped out of the tank via the heater cut out in the cover),
juveniles and they are now ( 4cm) just starting to sex out. I think(pray) that I
have A male!
My experience in transporting the juveniles was problem free. I have heard that
they can be difficult. I very carefully acclimatized them to their new tank over
a period of almost 2 hrs. None have died so far because or in spite of anything
I've done. I guess I could have made that heater cut-out smaller though!
The article was really full of good info. He suggests using mops for these
crevice spawners. And he induces them to use the mop by tying it off at the top
and bottom. I've seen them tied in the middle as well. This serves to bunch the
strands of yarn closely together. This satifies the fishes urge to lay in
crevices.
A while back I had Ross r. Signifer. I could not get them to spawn in my mops. I
seem to remember something about them spawning in the gravel etc. Nothing I
tried worked. But then I didn't know about tying mops off in this way. Do you
have any experience with Ross R. Sigs? It's a fish I'd like to have again but I
really need more info on their spawning habits. I've never had this kind of
problem with any of my other Sigs.
